Oil Pipe Diameter

A guide to the appropriate sizing of Hydraulic pipes can be carried out here. It should be noted that the purpose of the pipe must be known, is it Suction Pipe, Return Pipe or Pressure Pipe?  A guide to “normal” fluid speeds within these types of pipes are shown below. Calculated values for Fluid Speed v (m/s) should fall within these ranges.

To calculate Fluid Speed v(m/sec), you must enter the following figures:-

1) Diameter d(mm), this is internal pipe diameter.
2)Pump Flow Q(lpm)

Then press v to calculate, this will be shown in the result box.

Internal Oil Pipe Diameter (d)

Pipe/connection Type Speed Possible Speed values
Suction Pipe v from 0,5 to 1 m/sec
Return Pipe v from 1,25 a 3 m/sec
Pressure Pipe v 3,25 m/sec for Pressure up to 100 Bar
Pressure Pipe v From 3,5 to 5 m/sec for Pressure up to 150 Bar
Pressure Pipe v From 5,25 to 7 m/sec for Pressure up to 200 Bar
Pressure Pipe v From 7,25 to 9 m/sec for Pressure up to 350 Bar
