Hydraulic cylinders are powered by hydraulic fluid which has been correctly pressurized and consist of a cylinder barrel, contained in which a piston operates. The barrel on one end of the cylinder is closed off and the piston rod emerges from the other end of the cylinder. the cylinder is divided inside into two chambers, the head end contains the piston rod and the tail end is capped off.
Our bespoke and standard cylinders have been selected to cater for a range of applications in many different fields of operation. We can cater for a number of custom builds and offer a range of cylinder additions and options and are always available to aid you with advice and tips on the correct cylinder for your application.
Cylinders typically come in a range of sizes and functions including single acting and double acting variants. In single acting cylinders, the working fluid acts on one side of the piston, relying primarily on its load, momentum as well as springs to force the piston back in the other direction.
Double acting cylinders have a port at both ends which can move fluid in either direction for extension and retraction movement. It is the most popular of the two main types of cylinder due to its versatility in its many potential uses.
Bespoke cylinders can be used for a range of tasks and come in variants such as Servos for joining turbine blades to turbine hubs; Large bore cylinders for sub-sea cabling and Thru-rod, Thru-bore cylinders to operate robotic grab hands in manufacturing plants.
We have the capability to fix and service cylinders in-house and can supply the components for this process from our large off-the-shelf range of stock.
Popular applications for our cylinders include:
- Fatigue testing equipment
- Marine applications
- Materials handling
- Aircraft engine componentry
